  1. As I read through the scriptures for today, a couple big things jump out at me:

    1. The first few verses tell us that as Christians we are to be salt (flavoring or preservative) and light (a reflection of God's glory) to the world. While immediately I may not know exactly how to "share His flavor" and "His light" with the world, I am really encouraged by the next set of verses...
Jesus basically says that it's his job to fulfill the law or to keep all of the promises he's made to us in scripture. So if that's where we stand, I feel pretty sure that I can handle being a reflection of God if he's going to do the dirty work in my life and in our world.

    2. We like to teach that we're responsible for our own actions... which is true. It's a good and mature thing to take responsibility for what I do and how I live. But about all these other people in my life... do I really have to make things right with people around me every time I come to worship? What if I go to someone and ask for forgiveness and they refuse to forgive? Or what if someone is upset with me for something that I didn't do at all... Do I still need to go and be "reconciled with my brother" before I can offer anything to God?
While I can't control how someone will respond to me, it is a great reminder to think of our living God who never gives up on us... the more and more I pursue him to have a relationship, the more he'll show himself to me. BUT if I run away, if I decide that I am "mad" at God or have a problem with him... while that is sin, he won't give up on me. He will continue to pursue me until the end if that's what it takes. How good does it feel to know that we have a God who loves us THAT much?!
