  2. While the Covenant that God makes with Abram here in this chapter is one of the most important parts of God's story in scripture for us to understand and remember, it's the end of chapter 12 that always gets me hung up. In verses 10-20, we read about Abram and Sarai going to Egypt and LYING!

    What??

Didn't God just promise to make Abram a great nation and to bless his family more than anyone could imagine???

How could Abram be so quick to remember that God promised great things to him?

It happens to me all the time... now, God has never made a covenant with me about my family becoming a great nation like Israel, but he does tell me in Proverbs 3:7: Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. He also tells me in Matthew 6 (which we'll read in a few days) not to worry about things that are to come. He also has given me the whole Bible full of stories of HIS faithfulness despite people's sins and stupid decisions!

...Maybe that's why we get to read that little insight about Abram's mis-truth. Not to show us more about Abram, but to teach us about God's faithfulness to his promise! I'm thankful that I get to see that God was NOT finished with Abram right away. It gives me confidence that if I sin along the way, God is NOT finished with me but will keep guiding me to be more like him.
